Bankart Repair

A Bankart Repair is a surgical technique for shoulder repair to prevent recurrent shoulder joint dislocation. It is caused due to instability in the back (anterior) shoulder dislocation. Bankart injury occurs due to ligament injury or worn out ligaments. With proper technique, the worn out ligaments are re-attached by accurately placing the shoulder joint.
If you want to get treated for shoulder instability, you need to get the most effective procedure for Bankart repair. The Arthroscopic Bankart Repair is a minimally invasive procedure to repair the damaged labrum. In most cases, patients with a labral tear or the damaged portions of the shoulder joints are treated with arthroscopy. The Arthroscopy is a good treatment approach, less painful, and shortens the recovery time with highly successful results.
The main aim of the surgery is to have people achieve their normal activities.

Symptoms

Instability and weakness is the common cause due to shoulder injury

    Intense or severe shoulder pain

    Repeated dislocation of the shoulder

    Limited range of motion

Diagnosis

Consulting with a board-certified experienced surgeon helps you to determine the diagnosis process for the shoulder instability. Discuss the medical history, and you will be undergoing a physical examination. Pre-surgery X-rays help in displaying the shoulder dislocation to joint space, which is humeral (a ball of the shoulder) that comes out.
It is required to undergo the diagnosis for the Bankart repair shoulder instability so that the best treatment approach is considered.
Your surgeon may also perform a complete physical examination to determine any medical condition. It helps in processing the right technique for the surgery.

Bankart Repair Treatment Process

Medications

Your surgeon will prescribe the medications to relieve the mild pain. It will make the unstable shoulder to make comfortable. Medications will not help for tear ligaments.

Physical Therapy

Before surgery, a complete rehabilitation process is conducted with a few exercises to control the unstable shoulder. It will strengthen the rotator cuff and brings stability to the shoulder. The restoration of the shoulder stability enables the patients to perform their usual activities.

Bankart Repair Surgical Procedure

Arthroscopy treatment is performed for the patients to repair a Bankart lesion. Patients suffering from more and severe shoulder pain with failed treatment options such as medications, injections, and other non-surgical options can undergo arthroscopy techniques.
Before surgery, your doctor will prepare you for the surgery, which will be discussed during the appointment day. Patients may have to rest the arm for a month or upon the doctor's advice. Physical therapy will be performed in a week or two based on the condition of the patient. A complete rehabilitation program is outlined for complete shoulder stability. It may take six or more weeks to perform your activities. Follow-ups are needed based on the given dates after the surgery.
